Valley schools report fewer new coronavirus instances

Fewer new coronavirus infections were reported Friday in school districts in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties.

Trunbull county’s Champion schools, which had been leading in the number of new infections over the course of the previous two weeks, only reported one new student case in the last week. It had 14 cumulative student cases.

Liberty local schools had one new student case.

Other schools in Trumbull — Brookfield, Girard, McDonald, Trumbull County Career and Technical Center — each had one cumulative student cases reported. Liberty had two cumulative cases reported.

Trumbull County Board of Developmental Disabilities and Niles each reported one new staff member identified with the virus.

Champion had two cumulative staff cases remaining from previous weeks. McDonald, Newton Falls Exempted Village, Niles, Southington and Trumbull County Board of Developmental Disabilities each reported one cumulative case.

In Mahoning County, West Branch, with three new student cases reported, had the highest number of students to have the virus. Boardman schools reported one new student case. There were no new staff cases in Mahoning County schools.

West Branch also has three reported cumulative student cases in the district.

Mahoning County Career and Technical Center, Poland schools and Potential Development each reported having two cumulative student cases.

Boardman, Stambaugh Charter Academy, Struthers, Ursuline and Western Reserve schools each reported one cumulative case.

Poland reported having two cumulative staff cases, and Potential Development reported one cumulative staff case.

Columbiana County schools reported having no new or cumulative cases with either students or staff.
