Rally to support police slated in Canfield on Saturday

CANFIELD — The Village Green in Canfield will be host 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday to “Back the Blue.”

The event is the brainchild of Christine Oliver, who felt it’s time to get behind those who wear the blue uniform.

“I have been watching what is going on around our country, and I feel that law enforcement is not feeling the support they deserve,” she said.

The event will kick off with the arrival of the motorcycle group Blue Knights. The group will lead other motorcyclists who will meet at noon at the Manor restaurant, 3104 S. Canfield-Niles Road, and trek down state Route 46 to Canfield.

The rally on the Green will kick off with 9-year-old Gianna Oliver singing the national anthem. The ceremony will include a 21-gun salute to fallen officers presented by the Youngstown Police Department rifle squad.

Guest speaker will be Jay McDonald, president of Stand With Cops and former president of the Fraternal Order of Police of Ohio.

“We will have several fundraisers and the proceeds will go to the children of fallen officers,” Oliver said.

On hand will be local artists Ray Simon and Ron Moore Jr. who will be auctioning their art work, and there will be a raffle among other activities planned.
