Ohio breaks record for most daily cases reported

Daily COVID-19 cases in Ohio remained more than 2,000 again on Saturday, continuing the trend that had worried Gov. Mike DeWine all week.

The number of cases reported statewide on Saturday are the highest since the start of the pandemic.

He says Ohioans simply must be more vigilant in trying to contain the virus.

Columbiana County has a total 87 deaths linked to the virus, according to the Ohio Department of Health.

Trumbull County remains at 134 deaths, and Mahoning County remains at 283.

There have been 5,067 deaths reported statewide as the result of the virus.

Mahoning County was at 3,544 cases as of Saturday, an increase of 68. More than 200 cases have been reported in Mahoning County in one week.

Trumbull County saw an increase of 15 COVID-19 cases, bringing the total to 2,156. Since last week, Trumbull County has had 93 new cases of the virus.

In Columbiana County, 2,071 cases were reported, an increase of nine since Friday and 65 new cases over the last week.

The state has recorded 180,225 cases of COVID-19 as of Saturday, an increase of 2,234 from the day prior.

Numbers have climbed by more than 14,000 cases in one week in Ohio.

As of Saturday, a presumed 149,351 people have recovered from the virus.

Out of Ohio’s 88 counties, Mahoning County is ranked 10th for number of cases, while Trumbull County is 20th and Columbiana is 21st.

Using the state’s scale for risk of the virus spread, Mahoning County is at red, or a level 3, which means there is very high exposure and spread of the virus. People are encouraged to limit activities as much as possible.

Both Trumbull and Columbiana counties are at the lesser level of orange. People should use caution in their activities.
