Downtown Youngstown coffee shop closed for now

YOUNGSTOWN — Because of declining business from the COVID-19 pandemic, Joe Maxx Coffee Co. in downtown Youngstown has closed until further notice.

In a Friday statement on its Instagram page, the business at 265 W. Federal St. wrote: “Even with our best effort and redesigning the shop to create a safe space for our customers, we have had a resulting 75 percent reduction in business. So at this time, until further notice, our business operations will be closed.”

In the statement, the business wrote: “We quickly came to the realization that, unfortunately, the downtown community numbers have not returned to a degree that we are able to keep the doors open. During the short time of being reopened we have enjoyed and appreciated seeing some of our loyal friends and customers.”

Joe Maxx opened its first coffee shop downtown in 2010 at Realty Tower Apartments, 47 Central Federal St. It moved about two years ago to the Semple Building, 265 W. Federal St.

According to the company’s website, its two shops in Cleveland — one on Public Square and the other near Cleveland State University — are temporarily closed because of a slowdown in business caused by the pandemic. The only Joe Maxx opened in Ohio is in Brecksville.

Shops in Denver, Colo.; Englewood, Fla.; and Henderson, Nev., remain open.
