BOARDMAN -- A 19-year-old man found Saturday afternoon on the side of the road on South Avenue near Western Reserve Road in Boardman has been pronounced dead.
Boardman police Chief Todd Werth said police received multiple 911 calls about a man being thrown from vehicle on South Avenue around noon. The body was found on the side of the road outside of Xtreme Clean Auto Spa., 8525 South Avenue.
Werth said the body had multiple gunshot wounds.
The victim, who Werth identified as Issak Villarreal of Youngstown, was taken to St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Werth said his officers are working with the Youngstown Police Department on the investigation. Although the victim was found in Boardman, Werth said they have not determined whether the shooting took place in the township or somewhere else.
Werth would not identify the make or model of the vehicle from which Villarreal was thrown, saying this information is part of the investigation. No arrests have been made, according to the police chief.
Werth said a second shooting victim went to St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital. Investigators with the Youngstown Police Department are working to determine if the cases are linked.
This may be the third homicide to occur in the township this year, according to Werth.
On Feb. 13, Kane Wiesensee, 18, was found shot to death at a house on West Boulevard. His best friend and roommate, Emanuel Boyd, 19, of Boardman, was arrested in connection to that shooting and was indicted in May on charges of involuntary manslaughter, burglary, being a felon in possession of a firearm, tampering with evidence, grand theft, receiving stolen property and falsification.
He pleaded guilty in July to involuntary manslaughter and burglary and was sentenced to 14 to 18 years in prison. Police said Boyd stole the gun that was used in the accidental shooting.
No information could be found on the second homicide.
Prior to this year, the last time there was a homicide in the township was 2014, Werth said.
