Youngstown investigating 22nd homicide

YOUNGSTOWN — Detectives are investigating the city’s 22nd homicide of 2020, which occurred just after midnight Tuesday in the 200 block of Salt Springs Road.

Patrol cruisers were called to the home at 12:16 a.m. for a shooting, according to a news release from Lt. Brian Welch of the detective division.

Officers found a man who had been shot. He was declared dead at the scene, and his body was taken to the Mahoning County Coroner’s Office, with identification pending the notification of relatives.

The two-story green home where the shooting took place sits at the corner of Salt Springs and Tyrell Avenue. A small tricycle sat outside the front porch and garbage cans with trash were strewn across the back step of the home, which is located just in front of the Valley View Apartment Complex on Tyrell Avenue.

Detectives and the coroner’s office are investigating the shooting, the report states. Welch said the identity of the victim is pending the notification of next of kin.

A report said the victim was in his early 20s and investigators said several children were inside the home, but none were injured.

Police are requesting if anyone has information about the shooting, he or she should call 330-742-8950 or the detective division at 330-742-8911.
