Valley’s Alzheimer’s Walk today

YOUNGSTOWN — The Alzheimer’s Association Mahoning Valley Walk to End Alzheimer’s is today.

Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana County residents will be walking in their neighborhoods as part of the 2020 Mahoning Valley Walk to End Alzheimer’s, sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association Greater East Ohio Area Chapter.

The walk ceremony is at 10 a.m. and will be livestreamed. A multi-flower Walk Promise Garden will be set up for drive-by only viewing from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The location of the Walk Promise Garden will be Youngstown State University

Because of COVID-19, the association is encouraging participants to walk as individuals or in small groups in neighborhoods, trails and parks instead of assembling a large crowd.

Participants, however, are invited to drive past the Walk Promise Garden location. The Promise Garden is a representation of various colors of flowers that represent people’s connection to the disease.

The Walk to End Alzheimer’s raises funds for Alzheimer’s research, care and support. Money from the walk allows the Alzheimer’s Association to offer support and education services for free.

The Greater East Ohio Area Chapter serves 17 counties, making care and support available to 60,000 people with Alzheimer’s disease and an additional 250,000 people affected through their role as caregivers.
