Playhouse offers children’s classes

Youngstown Playhouse Youth Theatre will take its weekly acting classes online with courses for three age groups beginning Saturday.

“Imagination Creation” at 10 a.m. is designed for children ages 5 to 8. Ann-Marie Lowerre leads the introductory class that explores all aspects of the theater world. Each week students will learn about a new avenue of theater to inspire their future creative pursuits and a broad interest in the performing arts. Participants will write, design and perform short plays as the culmination of the session.

“Creating On and Off Stage” at 11 a.m. is for students ages 9 to 12. The class taught by Mackenzie Leskovec will provide a comprehensive look at all aspects of theater, including acting, directing and technical design (such as costumes and scenery). Students will develop a well-rounded understanding of theater by sharing their creativity in each area on a weekly basis.

“The World of a Play” at noon is for students ages 13 to 18. Jeanine Rees will cover how a play goes from words on a page to a rich, honest and realistic live performance experience. This class is a discussion- and creation-based class designed to bring understanding of theater to the next level. Students will acquire the tools necessary to build the world of a play via collaboration, critical thinking and script / character analysis.

All three classes run through Oct. 24. Registration is due by Friday and can be done online at www.theyoungstown playhouse.com/education.
