YOUNGSTOWN -- Aaron Clinkscale, 27, of Kendis Circle, originally charged with murder in the Feb. 4 shooting death of Ramon Cooper, 29, outside of a South Avenue tavern, was sentenced to 30 months in prison Tuesday.
Prosecutors in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court recommended 36 months after Clinkscale pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm in the shooting, but Judge Anthony Donofrio chose 30 months.
Police said they found Cooper shot in the road at South and Florida avenues. He was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital where he died.
Police said Cooper, of Howard Street, and Clinkscale fought in a nearby tavern prior to the shooting.
"Bar security separated the parties, but they confronted each other again outside, and that is when the victim was shot," Youngstown police detectives said at the time.
A Mahoning County grand jury refused to indict Clinkscale on murder but indicted him on the weapons charge.
