Woman pleads guilty in Boston Avenue house party case

YOUNGSTOWN — Jimmeze K. Shelton, 24, of Cook Avenue in Boardman has pleaded guilty to minor misdemeanor disorderly conduct after originally being charged with violating the state’s stay-at-home order at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

She was one of two people charged in April after police found more than 13 people in a house party at 212 E. Boston Ave., where police had issued a citation earlier for violating the state ban on large gatherings.

The other person was Dwayne A. Moody Jr., 29, of Midlothian Boulevard, who was charged with violating the state order, resisting arrest and obstructing official business. Moody’s case has not been resolved yet.

Shelton was ordered to pay a $50 fine and $70 in court costs.

On the night Shelton and Moody were arrested, Youngstown police said they saw several people on the driveway and about 15 vehicles on the property and parked nearby.

Police asked two males outside to go inside and ask the resident to speak to them outside. When no one came out, an officer knocked multiple times.

After about 10 minutes, people started to leave the house in small groups. Thirteen people were observed leaving the house, and six more were turned away from going in, police said. All of the people leaving said they did not live there except Shelton. She was handcuffed and placed in a police cruiser.

Moody then came out of the house and asked what police had done with his sister. When he refused to cooperate and struggled with officers, he was arrested.

Shelton later told police she was kidding about living at the home and was found to live in Boardman. She was not arrested but was issued a summons to appear in court.

All misdemeanor court cases in area courts such as Youngstown were postponed a couple of months because of the pandemic but resumed in June.

Starting at $3.23/week.
