Vital statistics office closes after coronavirus infection

YOUNGSTOWN — The city’s vital statistics office in the Youngstown Municipal Courthouse, formerly known as the city hall annex, is closed until Monday because an employee there contracted COVID-19.

The three-person office was closed Thursday to in-person ordering because of the case, with its other employees working from home until Monday. The office is under the city’s health department.

The office handles birth and death certificates for Mahoning County.

This case comes after a city water department supervisor at city hall tested positive for the virus last month.

Also, five city firefighters contracted COVID-19 between March 25 and May 1, and another had the virus two weeks ago.
