Molotov cocktails found at day care

YOUNGSTOWN — Investigators are hoping to identify the person captured on surveillance video lighting a Molotov cocktail and throwing it at a home / daycare.

The episode occurred early Tuesday in the first block of West Glenaven Avenue. A Molotov cocktail generally consists of a bottle filled with flammable liquid that is ignited.

Youngstown Fire Department investigator Kurt Wright said the resident of the home heard a loud “boom” at 4:30 a.m. and later watched on surveillance video a masked person who lit the device, threw it at the house and ran away.

The device did not cause any damage, and no children were in the home at the time, Wright said.

The fire department was notified at 7:49 a.m. and found two of the devices at the scene. They smelled like gasoline and were sent to the lab for analysis.

Anyone with information that could help investigators identify the person involved should call the fire department at 330-782-0055 or the police department at 330-742-8911.
