CAMPBELL — Patrons have had a good run of luck at playing the Ohio Lottery at Speed Check in Campbell. Papers hung around the store announce and celebrate customers’ winnings of varying amounts.

Now there’s a $1 million winner.

Manager Samir Razq of the convenience store and gas station, located on Wilson Avenue, said a winning $1 million scratch-off ticket was sold about a month ago — to a man who does not want to be named.

“He came in and purchased a $30 ticket called ‘Max The Money,'” Razq said.

According to the Ohio Lottery website, to play the game, if any one or more numbers match any of the winning numbers, the player wins the prize shown below the matching numbers.

Should a player scratch a “10X” symbol, he or she wine 10 times the amount shown.

Contestants also can win 20, 50, and 200 times the amount they reveal.

The man used a scanner located in the store to verify the ticket after scratching a few numbers, which revealed he won $40,000.

Razq said that was odd as there is no $40,000 option for that particular scratch-off, so the man scratched the rest of the ticket — which revealed an option of $40,000 for life or a lump sum payment.

The life option equates for 25 years, but Razq said the man opted for the lump-sum as he is middle aged, which is half of the winnings less taxes.

“He wants to enjoy his money,” Razq said.

The store doesn’t get a piece of the $1 million win. Razq recently found out that only top-prize sellers receive a percentage from the Ohio Lottery. In this case, Razq said the top prize would have been $10 million.

When asked the last time a big win happened on a scratch-off, Razq pointed to the papers hung around the store, announcing wins of a couple grand to that recent million.

“Our walls are filled. Twenty-thousand, $30,000… We just sold $1,000 Sunday to a Realtor,” Razq said.

“This is the place to play, honestly.”

A call to the regional Ohio Lottery office was not returned Friday for more information about the winner.
