Former teacher indicted on sex charges involving student

YOUNGSTOWN — Sarah M. Barnes, 28, of Seneca Street in Niles, a former teacher in the Jackson Milton Local Schools, was indicted last week on three counts of sexual battery that allege she engaged in sexual conduct with a student.

Barnes, also known as Sarah McCree, is alleged to have committed the crimes between December 2015 and June 2016.

School officials became aware of the allegations earlier this year when a former student complained about inappropriate text messages from Barnes.

She was placed on paid administrative leave but then resigned as the investigation was underway, officials said.

The grand jury also indicted the following:

• Jonah Donahue, 39, of Fairview Drive in Canfield, grand theft of a motor vehicle, breaking and entering and vandalism;

• Juan Laviena, 70, of Mahoning County Adult Justice Center, aggravated menacing, domestic violence, three counts of felonious assault, two with a drive-by specification and one with a firearm specification, one count of violating a protection order and one count of failure to comply with the order of a police officer;

• Danielle E. Schuler, 34, of Cooper Street, aggravated drug possession, possessing criminal tools, heroin possession, fentanyl related compound possession, contributing to the delinquency of a child, and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia with a forefeiture specification;

• Andre M. Morgan, 30, of Miami Street, counterfeiting with a forefeiture specification and aggravated drug possession;

•Andrew V. Ryan, 37, of Cooper Street, counterfeiting with a forefeiture specification, aggravated drug possession, contributing to the delinquency of a child, permitting drug abuse with a forefeiture specification and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia with a forefeiture specification;

• Justin D. Henderson, 46, of Garfield Road, New Springfield, two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm;

• Cassie R. Edwards, 39, of Oregon Avenue, Sebring, aggravated drug possession and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia;

• Robert E. Craven, 31, of Fairlawn Avenue, Niles, attempted unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, importuning and possessing criminal tools;

• Douglas J. Shultz, 29, of Jacobs Road, fentanyl-related compound possession and possession of drug abuse instruments;

• Jessica L. Price, 38, of Barrington Drive, Austintown, possessing drug abuse instruments, failure to comply with the orders of a police officer and obstructing official business;

• Glen R. Fournier II, 30, of Johnson Road, Sebring, aggravated drug possession and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia;

• Joshua P. Baker, 36, of Medford Avenue, Poland, aggravated drug possession and cocaine possession;

• Lisa M. Todaro, 33, of Akron, failure to comply with the orders of a police officer, aggravated drug possession, falsification and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia;

• Melanie L. Ferrell, 48, Washington Street NE, Warren, aggravated drug possession, having physical control of a vehicle while under the influence and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia;

• Patrick S. Trimble, 49, of Southern Boulevard, Boardman, arson;

• Carlton W. Sims, 36, Glenbrook Road, Boardman, drug possession and falsification.

• Brian K. Mills Jr., 35, Bear’s Den Road, Leetonia, aggravated drug possession and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia;

• Amber S. McCloud, 46, of Rocky River, aggravated drug possession and illegal use or possesion or drug paraphernalia;

• Aaron M. Robinson, 35, Maryland Avenue, Sebring, failure to verify address; and

• Dean D. Gore, 28, of Lois Lane, Girard, tampering with records, forgery and receiving stolen property;

The grand jury refused to indict the following:

• Julious Elliott, 18, drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia;

• Lance Daniels, 26, of Pittsburgh, rape; and

• Dana J. Hill, 70, gross sexual imposition and unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.
