COVID cases in Ohio stay below 1,000 for 3rd day
For the third consecutive day, Ohio reported fewer than 1,000 new COVID cases.
Monday marked the longest streak of fewer than 1,000 virus cases reported in a day since July 4 to 7.
The state recorded 932 cases Monday. That came after 944 were reported Sunday and 928 Saturday.
The 2,804 cases are the lowest three-day total since 2,699 were reported July 4 to 6.
The three days under 1,000 came after the state broke its record for the most reported COVID-19 cases during a three-day span with 4,662 between Wednesday and Friday.
Before Saturday, the previous 23 out of the past 24 days in the state had at least 1,000 new COVID-19 cases. Those 23 days are among the top 28 for the most reported cases in Ohio since the start of the pandemic.
The 932 cases Monday are well below the daily average of 1,291 cases for the past 21 days in the state.
During the first three days of August, the state is averaging 935 cases per day.
That’s lower than the 1,270 daily average for July — the most of any month — but is considerably higher than the June daily average of 543 cases and the May daily average of 564 cases.
In addition to the number of cases at the start of August being lower than July, Monday had the lowest number of people currently hospitalized with the virus — 1,001 — in at least the past two weeks.
Overall, the state has posted 93,963 cases since the start of the pandemic with 69,501 presumed recovered and 3,539 fatalities, according to the Ohio Department of Health.
Monday, 10 COVID-19 deaths were reported with none in the Mahoning Valley.
Mahoning had 2,411 overall cases Monday, an increase of 18 from Sunday. Of the total, 1,812 are presumed recovered and 253 died.
Trumbull listed 1,433 total cases Monday, an increase of 12 from Sunday. Of the total, 1,094 are presumed recovered and 103 died.
Columbiana reported 1,582 total cases Monday, an increase of 12 from a day earlier. Of the total, 1,377 are presumed recovered and 60 died.
