YOUNGSTOWN — Children who were hit by gunfire about 8 p.m. Monday near the 900 block of Franklin Avenue on the South Side are in stable condition.

Lt. Brian Welsh of the Youngstown Police Department said their injuries are not life-threatening. He said he doesn’t know whether they remain in the hospital, and said he could not disuss other details.

“Detectives are still actively following up on it,” Welsh said Tuesday afternoon.

Police said Monday that someone got out of a car and opened fire at a house, striking the children, who were nearby.

The vehicle then took off around the corner. Police could not say if the children were inside or outside the home.

The gunfire is suspected to have come from two weapons.

Youngstown police did not provide a report on the incident Tuesday.
