Semi truck turns over on Route 11

Liberty Township fire chief Gus Birch, right, talks with an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper as liberty fire fighters and crew from Underwoods towing work to clear the scene of a semi rollover on the 80 eastbound ramp to Interstate 11 northbound Tuesday. The semi was loaded with metal beams, which spilled across the roadway when the crash occured around 1:45 p.m., closing the ramp to traffic for several hours. Diesel fuel was also spilled. The driver suffered minor injuries but was not taken to the hospital, according to Ohio State Highway Patrol.

LIBERTY — A rolled-over tractor-trailer rig and a dumped load of aluminum beams blocked the Interstate 80 eastbound ramp to state Route 11 northbound and the ramp from state Route 711 northbound to state Route 11 northbound Tuesday afternoon.

Peralta Lopez Yeffri, 25, of Freeport, N.Y., was driving north on I-80 about 1:45 p.m. and exiting to Route 11 north when his 2003 Peterbilt semi and trailer went off the right shoulder and overturned, according to the Trumbull County 911 Center.

Yeffri suffered minor injuries but was not taken to a hospital for treatment, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Both ramps remained closed throughout the afternoon while crews cleaned up diesel fuel and the beams, and righted the truck. The Ohio Department of Transportation rerouted traffic from I-80 east to state Route 193 to I-80 west to Route 11 north.

Yeffri was charged with failure to maintain reasonable control of his vehicle with speed a factor in the crash, according to the state patrol.

The Liberty Fire Department, Trumbull County Hazardous Material Team, the Ohio Department of Transportation and the Ohio State Highway Patrol Commercial Enforcement Section assisted at the crash scene.
