OVI Task Force cites people on South Side

YOUNGSTOWN– Area police officers wrote citations to several people during the Friday night-Saturday morning OVI Task Force assignment on the South Side, but no arrests were reported.

At 10:10 p.m. Friday, a Poland police officer brought Montane Hopkins, 48, of West Myrtle Avenue, to a Youngstown officer regarding an open container of alcohol in her vehicle and Hopkins having no driver’s license. She was given a summons to appear in court.

At 10:35 p.m. Friday, police alleged that Ignacio Rodriguez, 48, of Garfield Street, was driving on a suspended license. Police issued a citation for driving under suspension and a summons to appear in court.

At 1:10 a.m. Saturday, a Mill Creek police officer diverted Ta’Rae Rowe, 22, of Beverly Hills, Fla., to a Youngstown officer alleging Rowe did not have a valid license.

Police issued her a summons for driving without a license. She also was advised to contact Mahoning County Area Court at Austintown Monday regarding a warrant for failure to appear.

At 1:59 a.m. Saturday, a Boardman officer diverted James L. Johnson, 46, of West Judson Avenue, to a Youngstown officer alleging he had a suspended driver’s license. The Youngstown officer cited him for driving without a license. Boardman police also charged Johnson with operating a motor vehicle under the influence.

At 10:45 p.m. Friday, an officer saw a vehicle fail to stop at the OVI checkpoint, so the officer pulled behind the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.

The driver, Javon Johnson, 29, of Southern Boulevard, said he did not realize there was a checkpoint and thought it was a crash scene. He was cited for driving without a license.

At 2 a.m. Saturday, Johnny Shogun, 23, of McKeesport, Pa., was diverted from the checkpoint. He was cited for driving under suspension.

At 1:52 a.m. Saturday, a Boardman officer diverted Marcus Washington, 27, of Trumbull Court, to a Youngstown officer, who searched Washington and found three small baggies of suspected marijuana in his pants pocket. He was charged with marijuana possession and issued a summons to appear in court.
