Local 4-H youth win statewide awards

CANFIELD — The 2020 Ohio 4-H Achievement Awards were presented recently during a virtual recognition program.

These 4-H awards are awarded annually to an outstanding individual in a particular project area for Ohio.

Local 4-H members received the following honors:

l Callia Barwick received the Health and Safety Achievment Award sponsored by Ohio Rural Electric Cooperative. Barwick, 18, is a 13-year 4-H member active in Steel Valley U9’s 4-H Dog Club, Blue Ribbon Wranglers and Capriculturalists within 4-H. She completed projects in healthy living, clothing and textiles, food and nutrition. She shows dogs, horses and goats. She has learned through 4-H how to be a leader and promote healthy lifestyles. She is the daughter of Madonna Barwick and lives in Canfield. She is a senior at Canfield High School and will be attending Ohio Wesleyan University this fall.

l Natalia Kresic won the Leadership Achievement Award sponsored by Clarence and Jane Cunningham. She was also recognized for being one of two 4-H youth selected to serve a two-year term on the Ohio State Fair Junior Fair Board. Kresic, 16, is a five-year 4-H member from Mahoning County and is the daughter of Matt and Windi Kresic. She is an active leader in her community and participates in sewing and non-livestock projects. She will be a senior this coming fall.

l Sarah DeLucia received the Rabbit Achievement Award sponsored by Dr. Elizabeth and Nelson Thomas. DeLucia, 17, is the daughter of Joe and Suzie Delucia from Mahoning County. She has been in 4-H for eight years. She shows and competes in rabbits, llamas, guinea pigs, and a variety of still projects. She is a junior at Springfield Local High School, and hopes to study zoology in college.

The recognition program was hosted by the Ohio 4-H Foundation. Ohio 4-H is the youth development program of Ohio State University Extension, with more than 171,000 young Ohioans participating in 4-H clubs, groups and special interest programs.
