Gas line leak shuts Market Street

BOARDMAN — Traffic was closed in both directions Tuesday as utility crews worked to repair a gas-main line leak.

Boardman Township fire Capt. Bill Glaser said Ohio Edison crews were drilling for installation of a utility pole when a natural gas line was damaged just before 9 a.m.

About 12 businesses in the immediate area were evacuated so crews from both FirstEnergy and Dominion Energy Ohio could isolate the damage, Glaser said.

Neil Durbin, spokesman for Dominion, confirmed that three customers were directly impacted at 5922 Market St. when an 8-inch main line was damaged.

A repair crew arrived at 9:35 a.m.

The fire department blocked off the area, directing traffic down Arlene and Gertrude avenues.

Once the utility companies had isolated and secured the gas line, the area was reopened to traffic at noon.
