City police identify 2 shot on Schenley

YOUNGSTOWN — City police have released the identities of two women who died Thursday of gunshot wounds on South Schenley Avenue.

Police identified the women as Suzanna Quinones Colon, 71, and her daughter Diana Rosaly, 51.

Investigators believe Quinones Colon shot her daughter and then turned the gun on herself.

Police were called to 1011 S. Schenley Ave. at 11:21 a.m. Thursday for two female family members who died in an apparent murder-suicide, Lt. Brian Welsh said last week.

The cause and manner of death have not yet been ruled on officially by the Mahoning County Coroner’s office. That ruling is pending further investigation, the coroner’s office said Monday.

Police had been contacted 15 minutes earlier by a family member, who discovered the bodies inside the 1,500-square-foot brick home, just off McCollum Road and near Fire Station 15 and Mill Creek Park.

“It’s an extremely sad situation,” Welsh said.

He had declined to release further specifics Thursday, pending discussions with family members.

If Rosaly’s death is confirmed as a homicide, it would be the city’s 17th of the year. There were 20 murders in all of 2019.
