Victims of crash on I-80 identified
GIRARD — Two people killed Tuesday afternoon in a crash involving a motorcycle and semi-tractor trailer on Interstate 80 in Girard have been identified as Donald Snyder, 71, and Christina Borton, 55, both of Lucerne Mines, Pa.
Snyder and Borton were riding west in the middle lane on I-80 on a 1992 Honda Goldwing tricycle that swerved to avoid debris in the road, according to a patrol report. The bike overturned into the left lane and both were ejected.
A 2010 Freightliner semi-tractor with double trailers was headed west in the left lane and struck the bike and Snyder and Borton, the patrol report states.
Borton, the passenger, was pronounced dead at the scene. Snyder died later at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
It is believed the motorcycle lost control and went in front of the tractor-trailer, and alcohol or drugs were not a factor. No charges are expected in the incident, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.
