YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning County Coroner’s office has identified the man found shot to death on Interstate 680 early Sunday as Shon Rankin, 41, of Youngstown.

Rankin’s body was found inside a black Cadillac on the exit ramp onto Market Street at 2:50 a.m.

An autopsy was conducted by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s office.

Police were called there for a vehicle with bullet holes in it and a victim inside. Officers found several holes around the driver’s door area and Rankin dead from multiple gunshot wounds.

Capt. Brad Blackburn of the detective bureau of the Youngstown Police Department said Tuesday he had no new information to provide on the case but detectives continue to work on it.

Rankin’s death is the city’s 15th homicide of the year. The city had 20 homicides in 2019.
