WHAT: Board of Education meeting Thursday through Falcon Media

PRESENT: Don Sherwood, Kathy Mock, Harold Porter, Robin Krempasky, Kim Smrek, Superintendent David Cappuzzello and Treasurer Blaise Karvlovic

The board:

• Approved the following retirements: music specialist teacher Linda Nock with 27 years of service; physical education teacher Stephen R. Wash Jr., with 35 years of service; and paraprofessional Ellen Kosa with 30 years of service;

• Accepted the resignations of intervention specialist Bruce Spicer for the purpose of relocation and head freshman football coach Seth Steiner, who will be the wide receiver football coach. The board also approved resignations of head Austintown Middle School football coach and assistant Austintown Middle School track coach Bruce Spicer and link crew coordinator Jacob Reid;

• Appointed Betty Ziegler the summer food service program manager with flex hours and shifts as needed June 8 through Aug. 21. The board also appointed Karen Tarr and Julie Carson as summer food service program workers for the above dates and Rita Evans as a summer computer technician, four hours per day, effective June 15;

• Appointed the following people to supplemental athletic positions: Anthony “T.J.” Parker as the head varsity football coach; Seth Steiner as the wide-receivers coach; Nico Mancuso and Joe McMahon as the co-defensive coordinator and inside and outside linebacker coaches; Melissa Pezzuolo as the drill team coach and Juliana Williams as the Fitch High School cheerleading coach; Darakatalib Britt as the offensive coordinator for quarterbacks; Jeff Bruno as offensive line coach; Mike Polder as tight-end and full-back coach; Bob Korenic as safeties coach, Chrisopher “C.J.” Martini as defensive assistant and middle linebacker coach; Tom Knight as JV head coach and offensive assistant; Nate Armstrong as freshman football coach; Julie Larkin as Fitch freshman cheerleading coach; and Dana Scott as Austintown Middle School cheerleading coach;

• Appointed William Vallas as football equipment manager for the 2020-21 school year for a $1,500 stipend;

• Appointed the following summer 2020 extended year tutors at $25 per hour: Kari Knight, Amanda Laird, Nichole Zielinski and Megan Rust. Also appointed Jennifer Leugers a Falcon Pride online teacher for the second semester of the 2019-2020 school year;

• Authorized students to earn the following seal(s) to complete state requirements to earn a diploma: fine / performing arts seal and student engagement seal.
