Woman charged with city arson

YOUNGSTOWN — A Boardman woman was charged with misdemeanor arson Thursday morning after being accused of setting fire to someone’s grill and other items at a house in the first block of Avondale Avenue.

Paulette W. Lee, 48, of Moyer Avenue, was arraigned Friday in Youngstown Municipal Court.

Police said they arrived for the 6:40 a.m. call and found Lee stumbling around the front yard. They also saw a grill, comforter and garbage bag of clothes damaged recently by fire.

Police spoke with a man who said at 5:30 a.m., Lee pounded on his door trying to get in. He refused to allow her in and said he thinks she had been abusing drugs and alcohol.

A short time later, he looked outside and saw that his grill was on fire and some of Lee’s belongings. The man and others put out the fire and called police.

Police were unable to speak to Lee, but it appeared she had used a gas can to light the grill on fire. And it appeared she lit some of her own belongings on fire also. She was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital and later transported to the Mahoning County Adult Justice Center.
