Valley’s deaths increase by 35 in one week

The number of reported COVID-19 deaths in the Mahoning Valley was up to 262 on Saturday, compared to 227 on May 16 — an increase of 35.

Statewide, deaths have reached 1,956, which is up from 1,581 last week. Ohio cases are up to 31,408 from 26,954 with 5,437 hospitalizations.

In Mahoning County, the number of cases is up seven to 1,317 with 291 hospitalizations and 169 deaths. Mahoning has had the seventh-most cases daily among Ohio counties since April 20. It also has the sixth-most hospitalizations and fourth-most in deaths. Statistics on May 16 showed Mahoning County at 1,185 cases.

Trumbull County cases are up four from May 16 to 514, with 145 hospitalizations and 42 deaths. The number of hospitalizations is down significantly from 172. Trumbull has had the 13th-most cases among counties in the state since May 11 and eighth-most in hospitalizations and 13th in deaths. Trumbull County had 440 cases at the beginning of the week.

Columbiana County has stayed steady at 477 cases and 129 hospitalizations and 51 deaths. Despite this steadying, Columbiana is 14th in cases and 11th in both hospitalizations and deaths. Columbiana County started the week with 397 cases.
