Boardman man, 19, indicted in shooting death of male friend

YOUNGSTOWN — In the first Mahoning County grand jury report in seven weeks, a Boardman man, 19, was indicted Wednesday on involuntary manslaughter and a host of other charges in the Feb. 13 killing of Kane Wiesensee, 18.

Emanuel Boyd of West Boulevard also is facing charges of burglary, being a felon in possession of a firearm, tampering with evidence, grand theft, receiving stolen property and falsification.

Boyd could get more than 20 years in prison if convicted.

Police said they were called to Boyd’s home at 1 a.m., where Boyd answered the front door and officers found Wiesensee struggling to breathe on the couch. An officer performed CPR, but Wiesensee died later at the hospital.

A witness told police Boyd was playing with a gun and the shooting was accidental. Boyd blamed the shooting on a shot from a vehicle that pulled up outside.

The witness said she heard a loud boom while sleeping on a couch and saw Wiesensee stumbling and saying he had been shot in the chest.

But Boyd said Wiesensee was shot north of the residence as he and Wiesensee were out in the street and a black sedan with its lights off pulled up, Boardman police said.

Boyd and Wiesensee were childhood friends, and Wiesensee apparently stayed part of the time at Boyd’s residence, a cousin of Wiesensee said.
