YOUNGSTOWN — The Basilica of Our Lady of Mount Carmel has canceled its annual Italian Festival scheduled for July due to the coronavirus outbreak.

According to Scott Schulick, festival chairman/ committee chair, who posted on Facebook Sunday the annual festival which was set for July 22 to 25 and is not planned to be rescheduled.

The post states, “While we know that July seems a long way off, it is now impossible for our committee to meet in person, and soon commitments would need to be made with vendors, entertainers and other suppliers.

“We also do not know how quickly things will be returning to normal and what kind of social distancing will still be in place at that time. This past week, Dr. Amy Acton, who heads the Ohio Department of Health, cautioned Ohioans that this ‘will not be a normal summer.'”

The festival is set to return in July 21 to 25, 2021.
