Food to be distributed at fairgrounds

CANFIELD — Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley is collaborating with the Canfield Fair Board, Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Ohio National Guard for the first traveling food pantry food distribution 2 p.m. today.

Michael Iberis, executive director of Second Harvest Food Bank, said the food bank is preparing for more than 500 cars with the distribution including a box filled with shelf-stable items, fresh milk and produce.

Those needing food are asked to enter the fairgrounds through Gate 8 and exit through Gate 5. Trunks of vehicles must be open and clear of all other belongings and windows must be rolled up. Recipients are not to exit their vehicle for any reason.

There is a limit of one box per car, no exceptions.

Officials are asking the community to refrain from lining up before 1 p.m.

The traveling food pantry is a new program of Second Harvest Food Bank.
