Canfield resident organizes egg hunt

CANFIELD — As Easter approaches and the stay-at-home order has been extended until month’s end, communities are trying to drum up ideas on how to safely have an Easter egg hunt in time for Easter, which is April 12.

Felisa Vogrin of Canfield has thought of something that meets safety guidelines of social distancing and keeping kids entertained.

Listening to the radio, she heard a conversation about egg hunts. Talking further with her 7-year-old son, Isaac, a second grade student at Hilltop Elementary, Vogrin said that her youngster shared he misses doing egg hunts at school with his friends.

“I thought about ways to get around” the social distancing but still offer the spring tradition, Vogrin said.

After some brainstorming, Vogrin said that she thought about trying to get people involved with poster-sized eggs that can be displayed in front windows, so kids would “be able to look for the Easter eggs without having that social contact.”

Also, on rainy days, families can drive around the community looking for the eggs, she added.

Vogrin decided to announce the “event” toward the end of March so that families have time to safely get supplies at stores, not having to worry about congregating in groups.

“I wanted to give the kids and people time to actually get stuff so people didn’t go all at once,” Vogrin said.

The egg hunt is another activity to keep kids busy, which Vogrin said her kids — she also has a son getting ready to start kindergarten in the fall — are doing.

“They’ve been spending a lot of time outdoors, in the backyard,” she said. On the rainy days, the Vogrin boys play video games and stay connected to their friends with technology.

Since making an event on social media, it has been shared by community members as well as the Canfield Police Department, and Isaac Vogrin has told his classmates about it when he has video calls.

“Hopefully,” she said, “everyone still remembers it,” she said, laughing.
