2 more in Youngstown arrested while partying amid stay-home order
YOUNGSTOWN — Two people were charged early Saturday after police found more than 13 people in a house party at 212 E. Boston Ave., where police had issued a citation Thursday on charges of violating the state ban on large gatherings.
It was the third time in four days police went to the home to disperse what police called “larger parties.”
Police dispersed the crowd Saturday after arriving at 12:46 a.m.
Jimmeze K. Shelton, 24, of Cook Avenue in Boardman was charged with violating the stay-at-home order, a misdemeanor. She does not have a court date yet, according to Youngstown Municipal Court records.
Dwayne A. Moody Jr., 29, of Midlothian Boulevard, was charged with violating the order, resisting arrest and obstructing official business.
Police said they saw several people on the driveway and about 15 vehicles on the property and parked nearby. Police asked two males outside to go inside and ask the resident to speak to them outside. When no one came out, an officer knocked multiple times.
After about 10 minutes, people started to leave the house in small groups. Thirteen people were observed leaving the house, and six more were turned away from going in, police said.
All of the people leaving said they did not live there except Shelton. She was handcuffed and placed in a police cruiser.
Moody then came out of the house and asked what police had done with his sister. When he refused to cooperate and struggled with officers, he was arrested.
Shelton later told police she was kidding about living at the home and was found to live in Boardman. She was not arrested but was issued a summons to appear in court.
Police took Moody to the Mahoning County jail, but jail staff refused to take him, so he was released with a summons to appear in court. He also has no court date yet.
Police were unable to identify anyone who lived at the home and found that the person who pays the taxes on the home lives in California.
Eugene G. Thompkins, 28, of Youngstown was charged with violating the stay-at-home order on Thursday after police found a large gathering of people at the East Boston home and spoke with Thompkins about it.
Thompkins also was warned the previous day after finding a large gathering of people at the home.
A specific number of people at the home on Wednesday or Thursday was not given in a police report last week.
