Man arrested after struggle with police

YOUNGSTOWN — Police were called to the 2400 block of Tyrell Avenue at 9:45 p.m. Tuesday for gunfire. Officers also had been dispatched to that area three times earlier for disturbances.

About 10 people were near a vehicle but started leaving when an officer arrived. The officer observed a handgun on the floor of the car.

A South Heights Avenue man, 20, approached an officer and said he needed to get his wallet out of the car. He was advised he could not enter the vehicle, but he tried to shove the officer away from the car’s door. The officer took the man to the ground and another officer assisted in arresting him.

The man was taken to the Mahoning County jail, but Youngstown Municipal Court records do not list the man as having been charged.
