Fire damages downtown Youngstown nightclub

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN — A 3:52 a.m. Sunday fire at the Liquid Blu Night Club on the first floor of 21 W. Federal St. downtown caused damage and injured one firefighter.

No other information was available on the injury.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. No other injuries were reported.

Smoke was billowing from the four-story, brick building when firefighters arrived. They cut a hole in the roof, forced open the rear door and broke windows in back for ventilation. They extinguished the flames and shut off the electric and gas in the basement, according to a fire department report.

The fire did not extend beyond the building, which is three doors west of the OH WOW! The Roger and Gloria Jones Children’s Center for Science and Technology. The building suffered about $50,000 in damage, according to a fire department report. Another $10,000 in damage to the contents was reported.

Firefighters controlled the fire in about five minutes, but they remained at the scene to carry out an overhaul and salvage operation for close to three hours.

The front of the building has a sign indicating there’s a second business in the building called the Thirsty Peanut, which is also a bar.
