Safe, truck stolen then recovered

AUSTINTOWN — A truck stolen from Drywall Barn was recovered, but then was damaged when striking a bridge, according to a police report.

An employee of the North Meridian Road business told Austintown police that two men broke into the business, cut the drywall in an office and removed a safe from a wall sometime before 7 a.m. Saturday.

Security footage shows the suspects ransacking three offices before removing the safe and pushing it to the warehouse. The suspects took a business truck that reportedly had the keys inside, lifted the safe into the truck with a forklift, and left in an unknown direction.

Later that day, police received word from the owner of the business that the truck had been located in a parking lot near Highlawn Lake in Columbiana. The safe was also recovered, but it had been forced open and the contents removed.

While the truck was being towed back to Austintown, the cargo box struck a state Route 11 bridge, and the truck was damaged.

Police are investigating several people of interest.
