Mental health court gets Austintown man’s case

YOUNGSTOWN — Antoine J. Cox, 27, of South Raccoon Road in Austintown, was assigned to the Mahoning County Mental Health Court on Tuesday after a guilty plea to charges associated with his arrest in August, according to court records.

Police arrested him after a South Raccoon Road resident reported that Cox was running around an apartment parking lot naked and violently trying to open the caller’s door, reports state.

Cox also tried to enter the driver’s side of a police cruiser and threatened to shoot an officer, police said. An officer deployed a stun gun on Cox, but he pulled off the wires and walked away. He was later taken to the hospital for evaluation after officers tackled him.

Mental health court allows defendants to have their charges dismissed and their record expunged if they successfully complete the program.
