YOUNGSTOWN — Joshua R. Santiago, 28, of North Heights Avenue, pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor assault Friday in Youngstown Municipal Court. He is accused of biting a man’s face and hand last week.

Police were called to the Fifth Avenue Community Church, 1361 Fifth Ave., Wednesday for two men fighting during an outreach program being held by the church. They found Santiago walking in a field nearby and took him into custody.

The victim, 64, said Santiago was picking on another man, so the victim asked Santiago to leave, but Santiago would not. Then Santiago bit the victim, who was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. Bond was set at $5,000.
