Judge orders bond at $50,000

Chicago man issued warning

CANFIELD — A Chicago man will stay in the Mahoning County jail on a $50,000 bond.

Rayan Syed Ravoof Hussain, 19, was arrested Christmas Eve on charges of disseminating matter harmful to juveniles, illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material and three counts of pandering obscenity.

During his court appearance Friday in Canfield court, Judge Molly Johnson expressed concern that Hussain has no other ties to the area to come back for court dates, other than the girl.

Investigators told the court that there appears to be no other connections to the area.

Johnson had a “stern warning” for Hussain should he post bond.

“If for some reason you feel that you are not required to make your future court date, you are very much mistaken. And you will not know wrath like you will find yourself in with either myself or the common pleas judges for failing to make those court dates,” she said, adding that if Hussain skips on any court dates in Mahoning County, he will end up in jail for the duration of a trial, which could stretch to a year.

The case will now go before a Mahoning County grand jury.

Hussain drove to a Canfield Township home after talking with a 14-year-old online, according to a police report. He told Mahoning County deputies he talked to the girl, helping her through a difficult time.

The report also states that Hussain is a Saudi Arabian citizen.

Attorney Rhys Cartwright-Jones represented Hussain, who holds a student visa for the University of Chicago.

During a search of Hussain’s vehicle, deputies found a second cell phone, two passports — one of which was canceled, Homeland Security papers, a check for $13,000, and other miscellaneous papers.

A laptop from the residence was also taken as evidence, the report states.

Starting at $3.85/week.
