Government takes home of ex-Braking Point director

LISBON — Ryan Sheridan, a Fairfield Township man awaiting sentencing for Medicaid fraud, has lost his home to the federal government.

Sheridan, 39, was accused of defrauding the Medicaid program of $48 million while operating the Braking Point drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility in Austintown. He pleaded guilty as charged in October to 60 federal counts, which included money laundering and trafficking in drugs.

Sheridan’s property at 41079 Spring Hill Drive was transferred recently to the U.S. Marshals Service, according to real estate transfer records at the Columbiana County Auditor’s Office. The property was listed under the ownership of 41079 Spring Hill Drive LLC.

Sheridan is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 23 and is facing 7 1/2 to 12 years in prison. Under the plea deal, Sheridan agreed to make restitution in the amount of $24 million and forfeit 13 properties he owns in Columbiana and Mahoning counties, including his home.

The 10,000-square-foot home is on 5.8 acres and has five bedrooms, 5 1/2 bathrooms, a six-bay garage and 20-seat movie theater. The forfeiture also includes another 16.5 acres surrounding the home parcel, which is valued at $594,000 by realtor.com.

The forfeiture order also applies to $2.2 million from Sheridan’s bank account, $396,000 in cash and replicas of vehicles featured in “Back to the Future,” “Ghostbusters,” and “Batman.”

Sheridan also faces unrelated drug possession and aggravated drug possession charges in Columbiana County involving cocaine, oxycodone and amphetamines. The drugs were reportedly found in his home March 5, 2019, by sheriff’s deputies responding to a domestic dispute.
