Fire station closed due to concerns of floor safety

YOUNGSTOWN– Fire Station 12 will be closed for about 60 days due to safety issues.

Fire Chief Barry Finley said the “structural integrity of the floor of the fire station is potentially unsound to the point of being incapable of holding up a modern firetruck.”

The Station 12 firetruck will be moved to to Station 1 while the station is under construction to reinforce the floor.

“While this matter has developed over a number of years, the recent exposure of additional rebar and the falling of additional cement from the underside of the station floor may be placing the men and women of Station 12 at serious risk,” Finley said in a news release — adding that he’d prefer to air on the side of safety.
