Truck downs power lines, snarling traffic for hours in Boardman

BOARDMAN — Motorists were met with unmarked detours for about four hours Thursday morning after a roll-off truck brought down power lines — twice.

According to trooper Nick Cayton of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Adonus Nickerson of Warren was given an unsecured load citation after the roll-off truck he was driving caused power lines to come down at the Western Reserve Road and Market Street intersection, and then north on Market Street at about 8 a.m.

Cayton explained that Nickerson dropped off a dumpster at the Sheetz currently under extensive remodeling at the intersection. The truck he was driving “rolls” a dumpster off a boom.

The problem was that the boom was never lowered, and it then brought down the overhead wires.

“He continued north on Market in front of the hospital (St. Elizabeth Boardman) and brought another set of lines down,” Cayton said.

Justin Chesnic, spokeman for Ohio Department of Transportation District 4, said that signal electricians were called to repair the lines.

Crews from ODOT directed traffic at blocked both sites where the lines were torn down.
