Salem man indicted for leaving kids home alone for days

YOUNGSTOWN — A Mahoning County grand jury has indicted a Salem man on two counts of child endangering.

Hiram Diaz, 53, of Calla Road, Salem, is indicted on the counts of felony child endangering after police said he left his two children, ages 13 and 5, home alone for days.

Goshen Township police became aware of the situation after a school counselor contacted them in March, saying the 13-year-old was unable to get into his home because he had locked himself out while putting his little brother on the school bus.

The older boy said he took a taxi to school March 8 because his parents had gone to Philadelphia for a few days.

The grand jury also indicted the following people:

Stephen Crowe, 50, of Woodland Place, Canfield, illegal processing of drug documents.

Alonzo M. Daniels, 29, of Lake Erie Correctional Institute, felonious assault with a firearm specification, domestic violence and having weapons under disability.

Aaron Sugar, 22, of Youngstown Pittsburgh Road, New Middletown, two counts of illegal use of a minor in nudity oriented material or performance.

Mychael-Ann C. DeFrank, 40, of Moyer Avenue, Boardman, aggravated drug trafficking with a forfeiture specification, aggravated drug possession with a forfeiture specification, drug trafficking with a forfeiture specification, two counts of drug possession with a forfeiture specification, drug possession, illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia with a forfeiture specification, illegal conveyance of drugs of abuse onto the grounds of a specified government facility, and two counts of aggravated drug possession.

Nathan M. Arnold, 36, of Atwater, illegal conveyance of drugs onto the grounds of a specified governmental facility, aggravated drug possession and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia.

Christopher R. Hunter, 39, of Middle Road, two counts of operating a motor vehicle impaired with a specification for additional prison term for certain repeat OVI offenders.

Orlando M. Kirk Jr., 27, of Park Avenue, improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle.

Jeremiah E. Vinion, 36, of the Mahoning County Justice Center, heroin possession, aggravated drug possession and drug abuse instruments possession.

Ka’Vaughndalyn Hall, 23, of Brooklyn Avenue, carrying a concealed weapon, improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, aggravated trespass and two counts of aggravated menacing.

America N. Negron-Acevedo, 27, of the Mahoning County Justice Center, illegal use of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits or WIC Program benefits, telecommunications fraud and petty theft.

Tyrone E. Gregory Jr., 41, of the Mahoning County Justice Center, kidnapping, abduction, cocaine possession, obstructing official business and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia.

Ciera M. Buckner, 31, of the Mahoning County Justice Center, fentanyl related compound possession, vandalism, petty theft, possessing criminal tools, criminal trespass and escape, theft.

Michael L. Lewis, 31, of the Mahoning County Justice Center, intimidation, two counts of obstructing official business and two counts of disorderly conduct.

Isaac M. Burr, 18, of Lyon Boulevard, improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle and receiving stolen property.

Myeshia L. Traylor, 37, of Ferndale Avenue, theft.

Jessica M. Pantoja, 20, of Nantucket Drive, Austintown, misuse of credit cards.

Derrick L. Oliver Jr., 26, of E. Philadelphia Avenue, improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle.

Alyssa R. Harrison, 19, of Fairgreen Avenue, improperly handing firearms in a motor vehicle.

James A. Driscoll, 31, of Westchester Drive, Austintown, robbery and intimidation.

William B. Hogan, 49, of the Mahoning County Justice Center, breaking and entering and vandalism.

Akira Boatwright, 20, of the Mahoning County Justice Center, burglary.

Terrence C. May, 44, of Hunter Avenue, cocaine trafficking and cocaine possession.

Andrew R. Scott, 23, of W. Chalmers Avenue, heroin possession.

Edwin J. Moore, 26, of the Mahoning County Justice Center, aggravated burglary, kidnapping, aggravated robbery, theft from a person in a protected class and misuse of credit cards.

Maxwell T. New, 31, of Burbank Avenue, aggravated drug possession.

Sterling A. Henry, 23, of the Mahoning County Justice Center, cocaine possession, drug possession and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia.

Tyrell D. Simms, 26, of W. Earle Avenue, cocaine possession and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia.

Moira A. Cleary, 47, of Georgetown Place, Austintown, theft and misuse of credit cards.

Kevin M. Johnson, 24, of Dublin, Ohio, improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle.

Aric J. Franklin, 29, of the Mahoning County Justice Center, assault, obstructing official business, attempted trespass into a habitation and criminal damaging or endangering.

The grand jury refused to indict:

Elliott Hymes, 39, of Powers Way, domestic violence.
