Canfield to get payback from paver
CANFIELD — In what city Manager Wade Calhoun called a very unusual event, council had to approve an ordinance Wednesday for a change order to get money back instead of paying more for its annual paving project.
“We came in just over $67,000 under the budgeted amount,” Calhoun said.
He said the 2019 contract was awarded to American Contracting Inc., in the amount of $536,240. When the contractor reached Deer Trail, it found a good sub-base and didn’t need to put down a new one, a savings of $67,538.33.
“I can’t say enough good about them,” Calhoun said. “It is very rare to have a company that will find savings today.”
In other business, the board approved the following appointments for 2020:
l For the Design Review Board, Anthony Nacarato will serve as council member to the board, and Debra Roman will serve as the exempted person, meaning she is not limited to a two-year term. Also appointed were John Orsini, Christine Oliver and Mark Velker;
l Appointed to the Civil Service Commission was Robert Macabobby;
l For the Income Tax Review Board: Ryan Crowell, Anthony Davis and Christine Oliver;
l For the Parks, Recreation and Cemetery Board: John Whitehouse was declared as the exempted person and Courtney Larson, Blaise Karlovic, and Kathryn Young were appointed and Chuck Tieche was appointed as the council representative;
lFor the Cardinal Joint Fire District Board of Directors: John Morvay and Richard Russo;
l Mayor Richard Duffett was appointed to serve on the Millennial Moments JEDD Board;
l On the Planning and Zoning Board, Lou Zarlenga was declared the exempted person and Steven DeCapua was appointed.
