YOUNGSTOWN — Joel A. Kurz, 31, of Lockwood Boulevard in Boardman was sentenced Monday to five years probation, ordered to continue counseling for a pornography addiction, register as a sex offender for 25 years and not use the internet.

The sentence was the result of his guilty plea before Judge Anthony Donofrio to importuning and attempted unlawful sexual contact with a minor.

Kurz is one of the 17 men charged in an underage sting operation carried out by the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office and Ohio Attorney General’s Office in May.

The sting involved undercover officers posing as minors, but Judge Donofrio said he has no doubt that Kurz would have followed through with his conduct if the person Kurz communicated with during the sting had been an actual 14-year-old girl.

Kurz has no previous criminal record, the judge noted.

Kurz also must complete 80 hours of community service, maintain employment and participate in a 10-step program.
