YOUNGSTOWN — The Beatitude House Ursuline Sisters Scholars announced three new scholarship recipients at a recent holiday luncheon, and congratulated four Beatitude House program members who recently graduated from various trade schools and colleges.

The Ursuline Sisters Scholars Program of Beatitude House serves 34 students and works to break the cycle of poverty through post-secondary education. The program has a two-pronged approach — providing financial support and one-on-one mentorship.

Assistance provided addresses the students’ basic needs for food, clothing and transportation, as well as their need for thoughtful advice from knowledgeable mentors.

The three scholarships presented are:

• The Comerford Fund for Scholars — $1,000 to Phantashia Freeman, who is studying nursing at Youngstown State University.

• The Mary Grace Fund for Scholars — $1,000 to Katelyn Davis, who is studying licensed practical nursing at Choffin Career and Technical Center.

• The Ursuline Sisters Fund for Scholars — $500 to Holly Lane, who is studying human services at Kent State University at Ashtabula.

“We at Beatitude House are so excited to be able to provide three much-needed and well-deserved scholarships for next semester,” said Emily Moran, Ursuline Sister Scholars program director. “Generous supporters have allowed for three exceptional scholars to receive funds that will allow them to continue on their educational paths while managing the financial costs.”

Beatitude House scholars also announced four recent graduates: Ra’Shell Adamson with a medical assistant certification from Trumbull Career and Technical Center; Shakeila Allen with a bachelor’s degree in political science from Youngstown State University, Autumn Bixler with a medical office specialist certification from Boardman Training Center, and Rasheda Provitt with a bachelor’s degree in non-profit human services from Kent State University at Trumbull.

“Every year, we look forward to celebrating our graduates and reflecting on their commitment to a better future,” Moran said.
