Porn, video part of New Middletown police chief investigation

NEW MIDDLETOWN — Village police Chief Vincent D’Egidio looked at pornographic websites, and images and a video of him performing a sex act were found on a work computer, states a letter to the Mahoning County sheriff from Mayor Harry Kale.

D’Egidio resigned Tuesday amid the investigation by the sheriff’s office. He has not been charged.

Sheriff Jerry Greene said the letter was delivered to his office on Monday, and the matter has been assigned to members of the department’s human trafficking task force. One reason for that, he said, is because “the age of the person in the video with the chief” is not known.

Greene could not say how long the investigation could take, noting that computer equipment needs to be checked and people will have to be interviewed.

The letter from Kale states that two New Middletown officers contacted him about the discovery of questionable material on an agency computer.

“It was discovered that, while on agency time, Chief D’Egidio has frequently visited pornographic websites,” it states, adding: “Various pornographic images as well as a video of Chief D’Egidio performing oral sex on an unknown male of an unknown age.”

D’Egidio’s resignation Tuesday occurred shortly after Kale placed him on paid administrative leave Sunday following the revelation the sheriff’s office is investigating him.

D’Egidio started at the department in 1981 and has been chief for about a decade.

Attempts to reach D’Egidio have been unsuccessful.
