Firefighters fill the boot for MDA

BOARDMAN — Boardman Firefighters Local IAFF 1176 will present two checks totaling more than $7,000 to the Wittman family of Canfield and to the Muscular Dystrophy Association at 10 a.m. today at the main fire station located at 7440 Market St. The firefighters spent the month of September collecting for the annual “Fill the Boot” campaign. This year’s collections raised more than $7,000 for MDA’s commitment to families, research and summer camp.

What is special about this year’s collections is part of the monies raised will stay local. Both Matt Wittman and his younger brother, Garrett, were diagnosed with Duchene Muscular Dystrophy at a young age and have been involved with the MDA in Ohio for many years. They are both graduates of Canfield High School where they reside with their parents Bill and Amy Wittman.
