Youngstown man shot to death on South Side
YOUNGSTOWN — A 25-yearold
man was gunned down and
later found in the backyard of a
South Side home where he was
pronounced dead Wednesday
evening.
Youngstown police responded
to an alert from a gunshot activation
system in the area of 36
Hilton Ave.
They found the victim there
with multiple gunshots. Ambulance
attendants declared the
man dead shortly after 8 p.m.,
according to a police report.
A news release Thursday
afternoon from the Mahoning
County Coroner’s Office identified
the victim as 25-year-old
Deion Harris.
An autopsy on Harris’ body
will be conducted by the Cuyahoga
County Medical Examiner’s
Office.
Lt. Brian Welsh stated that
detectives are following up leads
and asked anyone with information
about Harris or the shooting
to contact the detective division
of the Youngstown Police Department
at 330-742-8911 or the patrol
commander’s office at 330-742-
8950.
Mahoning County court
records show that Harris was
arrested in October 2012 on a
receiving stolen property warrant
in Boardman.
The court record also showed
Harris failed to appear for a traffic
offense in Mahoning County
Court in Boardman in July 2018,
and an arrest warrant was
issued. His address at the time
was at the Applecrest Court
apartments in Boardman.
If ruled a homicide, the death
would be the city’s 16th this year.
The last homicide in the city was
recorded Aug. 23 when a
wounded man was found lying in
the middle of the 300 block of West
Marion Avenue on the South
Side.The man later died at St.
Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
