YOUNGSTOWN -- Two people were injured in separate traffic accidents Monday, according to Youngstown Police Department records.
Eric Barclay, 24, 310 Kendis Circle, received serious injuries when his southbound 2012 Chevrolet Malibu went off the right side of the road, striking a utility pole near the intersection of South Avenue and Wilbur Drive.
The accident happened at 10:58 a.m., according to the police report.
Barclay was taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, where a condition update was not available Tuesday. The driver was charged with failure to control and driving under suspension, the report stated.
In a second traffic crash Monday, Erica L. Schmitt, 25, of Salem, received minor injuries when her 2015 Jeep Cherokee was struck from behind by a 1988 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Tyler Morrell, 25, of Youngstown.
The accident occurred at Fifth Avenue and Arlington Street on the Youngstown State University campus as Schmitt's vehicle was stopped for a traffic signal in one of the southbound lanes on Fifth. Morrell's vehicle could not stop in time, the police report stated.
Schmitt was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital with minor injuries, the report stated, while Morrell was cited by officers with not maintaining assured clear distance.
Morrell was not injured, the report stated.
