YOUNGSTOWN — A group of local volunteers, in an effort to combat global warming, will provide free trees starting at 11 a.m. Saturday at Illinois and Elm streets, near Wick Park.

Varieties available include red maple, river birch, basswood, black oak, white oak service- berry, winter berry, red oak, silver maple hop hornbeam and flowering dogwood. The trees are in 3-inch by 3-inch pots and are 6 inches deep.

Families and individuals who own their own home, as well as non-profit groups, are eligible to receive a tree if they have tree planting experience and agree to follow planting and maintenance directions. Free training also will be available for small groups in the future.

The giveaway will continue 1 p.m. Sunday, subject to availability.
