Springfield police dog to get retirement party

NEW SPRINGFIELD ä Dany, the Springfield Township police dog, is retiring after many years of tracking down bad guys, and will be honored at a celebration from noon to 3 p.m. Oct. 27 at Fire Station No. 1, 3989 East Middletown Road.

Cake and coffee will be served.

The Springfield K9 Unit is funded by the community and business donations, and Dany has served since April 2012.

He is a dual purpose police dog who has tracked and apprehended violent felons, located evidence in crimes and sniffed out illegal drugs, the police department said in announcing his retirement.

ßDany has worked with local, federal and state agencies.

The police dog promotes a positive relationship between the police and community. Dany has provided numerous demonstrations for civic groups and school children.

Tax-deductible donations are being accepted for the Springfield Township Police Department K9 Donation Fund.
